11 ways to spend a hot summer day in air conditioning

6 May, 2008 (06:35) | Pop-culture, Trevor, current events, movies | By: trevor

This summer has a huge list of great potential blockbuster films being released. I’m curious about some, and down right excited about others. Here’s the list, in order of release date…

OK, so the last one isn’t a theater release. But, it must be on there! Any continuation of the Star Wars saga must always be included.

Now, some of these you might have skipped, and that is your right. I, however, am very excited about each of these.

If I remember, I’ll try to review each of them, as I see them.

New photo gallery for my work…

4 May, 2008 (08:14) | Trevor | By: trevor

SmugmugI really enjoy Flickr. It serves me well. I’m able to interact with my friends’ photography, and meet new people. I’m able to get a decent sized audience to view my work, and sometimes get their reaction and critique.

The one thing, though, is that I can’t really sell my work on Flickr. If I’m hired to shoot a family’s portraits, Flickr isn’t always the best place to help that client see and purchase their work.

You probably know that I also love Smugmug. Without turning this into a sales pitch for Smugmug, I thought I’d simply mention that I’m slowly reworking my Smugmug account, to be my professional gallery. The place where a client can go to view and purchase the photographs I take for them.

I’ve set it up, so that my own domain will be a part of the action. Above, on the tab bar, you may notice “Photography”. That will lead you to my Smugmug Gallery.

My nephew’s first birthday

14 April, 2008 (21:09) | Trevor | By: trevor

I photographed my only nephew’s first birthday yesterday. Since the photos from my dSLR are larger than a typical HD image, I thought I’d make a nice, simple HD slideshow of the party. What do you think?

Ewww! That compression looks horrible. I’ll have to check out why it’s so low res.

Fatherhood: An honorable profession

10 April, 2008 (15:41) | Trevor | By: trevor

You know, I love being a dad. Over the last 8 years I’ve learned and grown so much. Many of my closest friends and family will tell you how much I’ve changed.

Blogging has been a real help for me. It’s like I get to journal, but you get to read it.

As you have seen, my photography obsession has involved not just me, but all my family too. I’ve had tons of fun photographing my kids. It really started with a desire to be able to shoot them better.

So, I thought I’d tell you all about a fun new venture I’ll be taking. In a couple of weeks, you’ll see a new article by me at BeAGoodDad.com. I have joined the team of dads, blogging about all things, fatherhood.

Each of the authors have a certain perspective and experience that will help keep the whole thing quite balanced. Head on over and take a read.

I really do amaze even myself sometimes…

30 March, 2008 (20:38) | Trevor | By: trevor

Just now I upgraded the blog software to Wordpress 2.5. It’s really exciting, if you’re a nerd like me. If you don’t care, then you’re not a nerd or a geek. But, the downside is that you probably won’t rule the world some day either.

Huge announcements, just huge!

29 March, 2008 (16:04) | Internet, Trevor, announcement, current events, news, photography, software, test, travel, web development, wordpress | By: trevor

I have two, unrelated, things to discuss right now. I really, really want your input.

#1 Wordpress 2.5

Wordpress 2.5 is finally released. I haven’t upgraded yet. Mostly because I was a little afraid. You see, the administration panels are drastically different. I’ve been listening to WP podcasts, and reading WP blogs so that I can learn as much as possible.

Someone suggested a test blog. So, this morning I decided to launch a test blog, at http://test.trevorcarpenter.com, and play around. I have been wanting to play with a few plugins, and decided that this would work best for them too.

Once the blog was up and running, my plan was to mess with the plugins first, then upgrade to the 2.5 beta. But, when I sat down to begin, I saw that 2.5 was out of beta, and official. So, I tossed the plugins for now.

The test blog is running 2.5, and the admin dashboard is very different. I’m excited. I like new things.

#2 Moab Photography Workshop

I have the days off, and I really, really want to go to this exciting photography event in Moab, Utah. I can drive it in 10 hours, and I’m willing to take my car. I plan on camping, to save cash and have a bit more fun. If you can make it, you should try and attend this one. Ann Torrance, who helps plan and organize the Salt Lake City Photowalks, is speaking and she give it a good review.

For those SoCal photographers, who want to go, let’s carpool!

Today we celebrate our risen Savior. He was in the grave for 3 days, and on the third he rose from the grave.

Ouch! The Joker get’s squished

19 March, 2008 (17:12) | Family, Joker, Kids, Trevor, current events, deanna, padawan, quicky | By: trevor

I’m just chillin’, watching Disney’s Enchanted with The Wookiee, and The Padawan keeps jumping up and down on the toy box.

I hollered at him a couple of times, “Stop doing that. It’s loud, and you could hurt your little brother.” You see, The Joker was playing right next to the toy box.

Moments later, I hear nothing but a sucking wind. You know the sound? It’s the sound of a one year old, hurt so much that he can’t cry. He’s trying to suck in enough air, so that he can let out the most horrible cry of his life. Yes, The Padawan had jumped again, and crushed The Joker’s little right hand under the lid of the toy box. I was angry, but I didn’t have the time to punish him. The Joker was in a lot of pain. The lid had come down on his little hand, right where his fingers join his hand. There was a nice dark red line across his knuckles and a purple spot on his ring finger. Poor baby.

As I tried hard to get control of the situation, many things raced through my mind. First, Deanna was off with The Princess in the family car, with the car seats. Ah! There was no way I was going to drive my three boys to the hospital, not in car seats. Luckily, we live 3 blocks from the hospital. I called Deanna as we prepared to leave.

I scooped up the boys and we raced out the door, walking/running to the ER. As we entered the parking lot, the screaming stopped. I looked down and also saw that The Joker was actually grasping his blanket with his injured hand.

I gave him a little assessment, and he did not wince or cry when I touched his injured area. Hmmm. So I called Deanna to see where she was. She was driving into the parking lot. Once she found us, she also checked out his hand, and agreed. The Joker would survive.

We drove home.

Where to connect with Trevor

19 March, 2008 (12:34) | Trevor, announcement | By: trevor

So, I’m reading my regular daily blogs today and I stumbled upon Darren Rowse’s recent post at his ProBlogger.net. He very simply posted all the places he can be found on the internets. So here I go…

I’m sure that there are a few new readers who may have wandered over here from a Google search or a link somewhere else. We live in a ‘net connected time where there are many places to connect with each other. So you may not be aware of the many places I exist.

America! Send Kady home, please!

6 March, 2008 (08:08) | Trevor, american-idol | By: trevor

How on God’s green earth is Kady still in this thing? Please, please, send her home! I don’t want to be mean. I just want the best people to do well on American Idol.

Keeping with the theme…

Also, America, send that man-girl Danny Noriega home too!

OK, better thoughts…

Keep the foreigners, Michael & Carly! They rock!
