This is where I whine, declare, and surmise.

Personal History Photo Journal, #2

It’s been a while since I announced my Personal History Photo Journal. I won’t explain it here. Just go read the first post if you want more information. This is a continuation of that post. I have added another set of photos to my Zooomr account tagged with “phpj”. You can see those, here. Recently I visited a dying icon in Ventura County, The Wagon Wheel restaurant and motel. I wanted to make sure that I photographed it before it is torn down. So, here’s a nice one.

I also visited my original hood, Oxnard. I spent my early years running the streets of the ‘Nard, so I thought I’d document it too.

And last but not least, I visited my parents’ original hood, Port Hueneme. You can’t miss beautiful little Hueneme.

Here’s the first of many. I’d say that one of the top characteristics of Ventura County must be our farming history. I’ve heard it said that we have some of the richest soil in the country.

I’ve been a little under the weather, so when I’m back on my feet, I’ll hit the road and capture some great new photo journal shots.

Personal History Photo Journal

23 March, 2007 (18:07) | Family, Trevor, Zooomr, photo-journal, photography, phpj | By: trevor

A few weeks ago, I began to put an idea into words. It began as a desire to document my home community in photo form. What the heck does that mean? I don’t quite know yet. What I do know is that with my newfound creative outlet, photography, I’d like to capture several beautiful locations and subjects right in my own home community. (I say “home community” because growing up in any town in Ventura County really means you grew up in Ventura County.) Places like the wonderful strawberry fields of Oxnard, the citrus farming around Fillmore, the historic Cal State Channel Islands (read: Camarillo State Mental Hospital), Ventura’s Mission, Mugu Rock, and the list goes on and on.

This concept can’t be new, so I googled, “personal history photo journal.” I got nothing. I couldn’t find anyone or anything that offered a model or prescription for success in my undertaking. So, I decided to create my own title, read above.

As I add to my PHPJ, I’ll add the best photos here. If you’d like to follow along, feel free to subscribe to this blog. Of course, I’ll put all the photos on my Zooomr account, so you can subscribe to that feed as well. (I’ll add that feed once I get it started.)

Peace out.
